When my first 3 daughters were young, my husband was the bread winner and I ran the business. Now with four girls (3,12,13,15) the tables have turned and my Social Marketing career has become what "puts food on the table". I do find that my husband has some pride in the fact that his wife is strong and independent. Sometimes his testosterone does get the better of him, but he is surrounded by all women so we do give him a break! LOL I think that in our new economy, cooperation beats competition any day, even in the family structure! As long as our families are taken care of it doesn't matter who the bread winner is!
