Your Business Model and Your Excellent Adventure
Enjoying an excellent adventure that involves
extended travel will probably include finding ways to create cash flow on the road. Since you don’t want to work 40+ hours a week as you travel, it’s crucial to find ways to create more income in less hours.
One great thing about my life is for 18 years I’ve found ways to make money doing what I’m passionate about. Y’know, the “Do What You Love and the Money Will Follow” idea from Marsha Sinetar’s book.
Fine, but at age 52 I’m aware I never stop DOing. I’m ready to be a human BEing rather than a human DOing. Ready to DO different things.
One of the awful things about my life is by doing what I love, my hands are in everything. That doesn’t bode well for delegating so I can walk the Great Wall of China or hike a mountain for a day in the Canadian Rockies. Hmmmmm…. What to do?
I’ve always delegated the tekky work of building websites, etc. I’ve learned more technology this year so far. I wouldn’t build a website, but I’m learning to video and upload to YouTube, Facebook and other stuff. In the past if I didn’t get it right the first time I’d cry or scream and pull my hair out (don’t worry – I have thick hair). Driving traffic to websites bores me to tears so I’d move on to the next thing.
Creating my own audio or video products – fun!!
Selling someone else’s audio or video products (even if they’re awesome) – not so much fun.
Writing in my blog – big fun!!
Driving traffic to a blog – not so much.
Could I have a great-looking, quality T-shirt designed to sell with a cool, Excellent Adventure logo on it? Sure. Do I care much. Nah! Will I do it? Maybe. We’ll see.
I must become less attached to the “I must create it all” and “I must be passionate about it all” mindset to be successful at this. I must be willing to open up and create more streams of income to build the cashflow needed to hit the road. My aim is to do it with my websites I always ask this of mentoring clients before taking them on: “Are you willing to be open, coachable and teachable?”
The teacher always teaches what she needs to learn.
So, it’s about creating systems. Oooooh, that sounds like fun!
Then implementing those systems. Um, would rather stick knitting needles in my eyes. But here’s the cool part (there’s a cool part?) once those systems are in place and working well I can ride the trains in Thailand with my husband or go to a Farmer’s Market and buy flowers in Paris for our apartment.
It’s like life. Full of trade-offs.
PS: Tuesday of next week (8/16) the “extreme makeover” of “Your Excellent Adenture” will finally go live. It’s going to be amazing. I’m so excited. Make sure you drop by, okay? Promise? *smile*
Dedicated to every 40+ person still kickin' it. If you have dreams and adventures you refuse to abandon - follow me on the journey. Life is one big adventure! Make yours excellent.

Since taking part in the “Excellent Adventure” I have been really looking at how to combine my passions into a business model that makes sense. I found I needed to have a “Portable” business that I can literally do from the road. I was fortunate to find the perfect fit. I agree, driving the RV to a beautiful park in Alaska is part of the fun part and learning how to get traffic to my website is important, however not what I want to have to focus on. You have shared with us the power of outsourcing and that is something at the top of my list!
I like the new look to the site. Looking forward to continuing the adventure.

Hi Mark:
Thanks for your comment. Always appreciated.
It’s true that every person looking to create a location independent lifestyle isn’t going to figure out the same way to create cash flow. For me, my aim was to create income from writing while traveling. What that’s meant is that I’m getting out of my comfort zone and learning to do things with the computer that are not simple or easy for me at first – but become so after working on it a few times. It’s a real opening and one that’s seriously overdue.
For you, you’re creating a network marketing stream of income that’s ideal for you. I think World Ventures makes a ton of sense. If you’re going to have an MLM business as you travel – why not have one that’s all about travel? Who knows at some stage Ernie and I may go that direction – but I need to get the blog and other stuff humming along before adding in new income streams.
Glad you like the new look on the site. It’s been a work in progress. More very minor changes to come.
